Okay so in the last couple of posts or so, i had discussed how we should embrace the new, yes? Well I want to go back look into the past, namely the 1950's, fashion that is influenced by past styles, a past starlet, and so on. All of these elements have to do with the past, I hope you enjoy the post! The wing-tipped glasses here, scream '50s to me! And though this may be off-topic, I completely love the pose!
This picture is of the Bernardo Sandal, created in 1946 by none another than Bernard and Bertha Rudofsky. This picture was taken during the 1950s, by Bernard Rudofsky himself. Notice the Eiffel tower in the backround. Shoes. Paris at your feet. What more could you ask for?!
There is some definite class in this piece. It has the sense of 1950s sophistication.
If you do not recognize this glamorous siren, she was the star of Gidget, you know that 1959 surf movie? This is Sandra Dee. She is one of the starlets where back in the day Hollywood truly embodied class and style that dazzled!

Speaking of style that dazzles...here is Scarlett Johansson. I think she takes tips from the past, and is modern day siren. Scarlett is usually seen sporting a red lip, hair that is curled to perfection, and carries a drop-dead gorgeous presence about her.

Confessions of a Blogette

I'm making up for a long overdue post. I am doing this because first of all I have the time...so why not? Second I'm making this post to keep my mind off a few things. Anyway this post is slightly more personal, because rather than just voicing my opinions, I'm talking about...me! Now you readers can know me better...flaws and all!

I title this CONFESSIONS OF A BLOGETTE!

• in typical californian fashion i want perfect weather
• my comfort food is cereal
• huge procrastinator, (but slowly improving)
• I'm pretty good at reading a great book like halfway through, im a lazy reader. in other words it takes me a while to actually pick up the book, but once i do im hooked!
• I'm self-conscious
• I'm sensitive-I take things to the CORE! In other words I'll take certain things very seriously.
• My emotions are always written all over my face

BUT I do know that I...

• possess artistic talent
• do my best to include others
• know how to be polite and courteous
• am ambitious
• intelligent
• have the laugh of an "aristocratic lady", so I've been told. Supposedly, it's "classy".
• caring (family and friends mean the WORLD to me!)

As always I have to throw in some fashion in my posts. And this is probably the first time I haveput up what I will call:"POST LEFTOVERS". So you know how sometimes when you eat leftovers the food happens to be just as good or even BETTER than it was the night before? These last pics are part of a photoshoot from the latest issue of ELLE magazine, the mecca for all things high fashion! If you haven't already guessed I'm in LOVE with this magazine. These pics to me, represent the darkside of fashion, had I more courage I'd probably join the darkside.

Alright so I'm rather critical of fashion collections. I can decide whether I like it or not in at least 10 seconds. Then if a collection really catches my eye I will take a couple of minutes before finalizing which collections make it into my posts. Anyway, here are some notes I've made on the Fall '08 collections...

First are the honorable mentions:
Louis vuitton:
masculine, materials used for comfort, bold
kind of woman who would wear this: daring!
definitely not created for the fashionably weak

Stella mccartney
interesting detail
beautiful flow
*in quite a few of the collections the metallic trend seeps its way back in
a lot of black was incorporated in the fall '08 collections

Lela rose: pretty, belts worked well as accessories, feminine, soft

Wunderkind: "fresh perspective" new

Now for the top 5, these collections are all MUST-SEES

Embracing the "new" is very important. These looks belong to the finalists on Project Runway Season 4, and I think that each one of these designers has a new view on fashion. The first look is by Jillian, and I really love how it is styled. The combination of the garments and accessories is just brilliant. The second look is by Rami, the headband is very pretty and creative. Although, it reminds of the headbands created in a past Marc Jacobs show. The last picture shows a dress by Christian; and the mix of the two colors and the choice of material are very successful in creating a powerful look. Now here are some looks from the past........




These are some dramatic pieces from the Met in NY. Each piece is expressive in its own way, but my favorite would have to be the third picture down...it is designed by none other than John Galliano.

This is a painting that I really really love. I adore the colors and what this women is wearing. The painting is done by John Singer Sargent who just happens to be A-mazing.

I love this quote-especially since it's through a fashion designer's perspective.(Even though she's not a real person).Here's that quote again:
